The Art of Perseverance: Nehemiah 12:27-47 (How to Touch the Heart of God)
The runner crosses the finish line…and they celebrate!
The gymnast wins her gold medal…and they celebrate!
How appropriate it is for Christians to celebrate the great works of God!
I’m not sure I do this enough. The Israelites already celebrated God’s works and Word in chapter 8. Now that they’ve organized and structured and strategized…they celebrate again.
Check it out: Nehemiah 12:27-47
But this time they emphasize giving thanks.
Thanksgiving Reaches the Heart of God
Check out these verses on giving God thanks:
- Ps. 95:2 – Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song.
- 1 Thess. 5:18 – …give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
- Phil. 4:6 – Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
- Eph. 5:19-20 – …speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The Bible is full of passages on thanksgiving to God. We can confidently say that giving thanks to God means quite a lot to Him.
Giving Him thanks recognizes Him as our Provider.
Giving God thanks for His works is submitting to His sovereignty.
Giving Him thanks removes our pride.
Giving Him thanks sparks a yearning in our hearts to serve Him more.
The more we give God the thanks He deserves, the more of the abundant life do we experience.
What Are You Thankful For?
We actually have much to celebrate! We have been given so much. Furthermore, when we persevere and reach a milestone or the finish line, God desires us to celebrate by giving Him thanks!
Enjoy the time now to thank God for the great things He has done!
