How to Turn “Surviving Life” Into a “Thriving Life” [VIDEO]

Thrive: to grow vigorously; to progress toward or realize a goal despite or because of circumstances (Merriam-Webster.com).Rock Climbing The Southwest, USA

When I think of a thriving life, I think of Jesus’ telling us that He came to give us abundant life (John 10:10). I’ve heard it put like this: a life living above the common.

In a nutshell, if you want to thrive in this life–even though it is uncertain, with unknown futures, past mistakes and failures, diseases and turmoil, wars and rumors of wars–there is only one thing you need…faith. To thrive you and I need to exercise our faith in Jesus, because continued faith in the King of kings enables you and me to overcome.

Wanna Thrive? Be an Overcomer.

Oh! And by the way, according to the Bible, if you have trusted in Jesus as your Savior, then you ARE an overcomer.

Sound too simple? Check out what the Bible says about this.

For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? – 1 John 5:4-5 (NKJV)

Here’s the deal: if you and I dwell on the circumstance–the disease, the financial trouble, the wayward child, fear of the future–then we are not exercising our greatest tool for thriving in this life. That tool is faith.

However, if you and I have faith that Jesus is the Son of God–that He was obedient enough to become human, that He was loving enough to take our sins on the cross, that He was powerful enough to be raised from the dead, that He has authority to sit at the right hand of the Father, that He will come to rule the world–if we believe this, then we can believe that we are overcomers in this world.

Why?

Because Jesus is the Overcomer. And He is in us.

We get in trouble when we tell ourselves that we are doomed in a difficult circumstance. We think to ourselves that this circumstance is far too difficult to bear. And we cower and fade.

You become what you tell yourself to become.

Tell yourself the truth: you are an overcomer. Stop the lies! Stop thinking that your sin is too much for Him to forgive.

Stop telling yourself that your circumstance will destroy you. Stop being afraid of life!

Stop saying that your pain is too much for you to overcome. Stop thinking that it will always be this way.

Start telling yourself the truth. Jesus has made you an overcomer. Accept it. Grasp it. Hold onto it. Speak it. Write it down.

Then you won’t just survive life…you will live as Jesus intends for you to live.

You will THRIVE.

Have faith in the Son of God.

The one who faces financial failure can wake up each morning with great hope.

The one whose loved one is serving our country in the heat of battle can stand in confidence that Jesus is there.

The one who struggles with the same sin daily can run inside freedom’s stadium.

The one whose child endures a disease can lead his family into a life lived above the common.

I LOVE how Christian recording artist Mandisa puts it in this song. Check out the video below. And then grasp the truth.

YOU ARE AN OVERCOMER. So lift up your head and move. Love. Smile. Embrace.
